Progress with 12 Steps

I reached out to SA UK via email. They got back to me with locations of many meetings, and a beginners meeting that’s held online. For my first meeting I opted for the one on zoom. I don’t remember the exact date of my first meeting but I remember seeing so many people on that call, young and old, which was quite comforting. The meeting was amazing, although a little overwhelming, and I remember I even stayed after to just clarify some things and connect with some people. I was really shy but the fellow I was speaking to was incredibly friendly and so informative. It was also in this meeting where I found my first sponsor. I didn’t actually start working the steps, or work with my sponsor until my final exams were over, however as soon as they concluded I reached out to him and we started working.

My first sponsor set me a routine that I had to follow, it was quite time consuming but during summer break, it wasn’t too bad. It consisted of attending a meeting a day, reaching out to five fellows, doing step work, reading literature, sending a nightly inventory to my sponsor and sending him a routine of my day.

Things were going well during early break, however as time went on, the routine started to collide with other obligations. By the end of summer break I was attending a summer school in the morning, and working during the day. The routine became incredibly hard to hold onto, and eventually I let go and slipped, ending around a two month run of sobriety.

I kept working with other sponsors after my slip, but it would not be till early December that I regained some clarity. I found my current sponsor and we went through steps 1-3 pretty quickly. (Btw this is my first time actually working the steps thoroughly with a sponsor) It was and has been so incredible for me. Accepting that I am utterly powerless and that a higher power can relieve me of this burden if they were sought has really helped. I’m currently on step 4, cleaning house and I have many many things that need clearing lmao. But I must complete them, get right with myself and others and then start helping people. I’ve missed out on a lot of details but I hope this piece of text can help someone and hopefully prod them on their way :)
