“The Porn Trap”

The essential guide to overcoming problems caused by pornography

Said one forum member:

Started reading The Porn Trap by Wendy and Larry Maltz and it’s pretty much about overcoming addiction to pornography. It is very motivating to read other’s stories battling addictions far worse than mine, who have gone down darker paths, and have seen their lives torn apart, find the resolve to come back into a normal lifestyle. If these people can do it, so can I. The book has also offered some guidelines and exercises that I can do, especially with a lot more time on my hands.

Author Wendy Maltz says:

We spend half the book on recovery and have a detailed resources section. My website has free articles and downloadable posters to help with porn recovery, too: www.healthysex.com. [Visit their website page on The Porn Trap.]

The authors recommend these six basic action steps to quit porn:

  1. Tell someone else about your porn problem
  2. Get involved in a treatment program
  3. Create a porn-free environment
  4. Establish twenty-four-hour support and accountability
  5. Take care of your physical and emotional health
  6. Start healing your sexuality

These questions will help you find someone to tell:

  • Who is likely to accept me in spite of my porn problem?
  • Whom can I trust not to shame me or condemn me?
  • Whom have I been able to confide in previously, with positive results?
  • Who does not gossip about others?
  • Who has respected confidentiality in the past?
  • Who has compassion and sensitivity about personal problems?
  • Who is understanding and knowledgeable about addiction and recovery?
