Age 17 – The last 3 months have really opened my eyes on the matters of porn.

I (M17) joined NoFap 88 days ago, a few days before my 17th birthday. It wasn’t because porn was ruining my life, or I spent long hours watching it. That was not the case. It wasn’t even because I’m a Christian, while it was probably a factor, too. It was just to challenge myself. Because, you see, I have a massive ego.

The feeling that “I’m probably the only guy I know that would take this challenge seriously” just made me “superior” in my eyes. And to this day, I still unconsciously think that, and I also judge people here based on their counter. I don’t want to, it just happens.

Doing this challenge wasn’t hard for me. During the whole 90 days, I don’t think I experienced anything I would call an “urge”, it was just more like this feeling that I “should do it”. Not very difficult to resist that. (The last couple of days were actually the hardest for some reason.) Nowadays, I don’t really consider NoFap a challenge anymore, it’s just lifestyle. One that I’m happy to live.

The last 3 months have really opened my eyes on the matters of porn. I have always subconsciously known what a terrible “industry” it is, but it never became more apparent than when I actually abstained from watching it. Porn controls us from the early age, giving us unreal expectations, wasting our time, taking our social skills and turning us into mindless zombies. Although I hate alcohol, drugs and smoking, I consider porn to be the most dangerous addiction because it’s so accessible, you’re driven to it by your “inner instincts”, so to speak, and most importantly: the society accepts it. And that’s really sad, given that we’re priding ourselves on the modern age we live in.

During those 3 months, I didn’t magically stop being shy, or talked to lots of girls, or even improved my grades at school. Sure, I did start to organize my life more, I even started working out a little. But that’s pretty much it. NoFap doesn’t magically make you better unless you make the necessary steps. It just removes the one problem that blinds you from seeing the other ones. It’s the necessary first step you have to do in order to improve your life. The sooner you start, the better and faster results you get.

I’m really glad I started and kept it up until now. But 90 days was never my challenge. The real challenge is to keep this up for the rest of my life. Not the streak, but the actual mindset. To really make NoFap a lifestyle. And I intend to do just that.
