COMMENTS: This study clearly shows that those with Internet addiction develop brain abnormalities that parallel those found in substance abusers. Researchers found a 10-20% reduction in frontal cortex gray matter in adolescents with Internet addiction. Hypofrontality is the common term for this change in brain structure. It is a key marker for all addiction processes. If this can happen with Internet addiction, what occurs when Internet porn is added to the mix?

COMMENTS: Very important study showing D2 dopamine receptors returning to normal after rapid weight loss due to gastric bypass surgery. First, this shows that those who became obese did not have pre-existing desensitized brain. Second, it shows that over consumption of natural rewards can cause desensitization. Third, it demonstrates that brains can return to normal when excessive consumption is removed.

COMMENTS: More evidence that Internet addiction exists. A reduction of striatal D2 dopamine receptors is the main marker for desensitization of the reward circuitry – the hallmark of all addictions. If one can have internet addiction, surely adding porn into the mix could lead to an addictive state.

This guy, who could no longer use a condom successfully due to porn-induced ED, applied the recent scientific findings about how superstimuli can numb the pleasure response of the brain to his use of today’s hyperstimulating porn. He decided to allow his brain to “reboot.” Although each person’s rebooting experience is different (recoveries range from […]

Usually we post about the science that explains why today’s Internet superporn has the power to initiate addiction processes in some users’ brains. The most efficient way to return to full potency is to “reboot,” i.e., allow the brain’s reward circuitry to return to normal sensitivity by stopping all intense sexual stimulation for a while. […]

[First post] I’ll keep my story brief (27yrs, male). Over the past several years, I’ve suffered increasingly worse symptoms of ED. After a breakup with my first love at 21, I began to experience soft erections whenever a condom was involved, but fine without it. Around 23, I began dating a girl and I couldn’t […]
