COMMENTS: Basic premise is that addictions hijacks the pair bonding mechanisms shared by the reward circuitry. Porn addiction therefore likely affects the pair-bonding mechanisms in our brains.

COMMENTS: What this shows is that rats like to gamble, so it’s a evolutionary advantage to gamble. It also shows that near misses can heightened dopamine response. As stated, if gambling can alter our limbic brains, then porn certainly can. It is also a reminder that we share basic limbic functions with our mammal cousins.

COMMENTS: This research shows that the reward circuitry and dopamine producing nerve cells respond to fear. The same circuit that drives us with dopamine to pursue our goals, such as orgasm, is also activated by fear. This is why we “like” scary things – roller coasters, bungy-jumping, horror movies, etc. We wonder if fear or […]

Many porn users report that delayed ejaculation was a precursor to their erectile dysfunction. Years of porn use can cause a variety of symptoms, which when examined, lie on a spectrum. Desensitization of the reward circuitry is at the root of these various symptoms, which include:
